Subspecialties David Kurahara, MD
The Division of Pediatric Specialties has gone through a year of transitions. Much has changed since the last faculty report as key, valued members retired or left to practice in other excellent academic centers. After many years of servicing the community faithfully, Dr. Robert Bart retired this past summer from the Department and his practice of Pediatric Neurology. Dr. Claire Wilson received an opportunity on a faculty position at Stanford Medical School and also received a leadership position as Director of their Transplant Outreach Program. Both individuals will be missed from the Division and the Department, and we wish them well on the new chapters in their lives.
Other key changes include the moving of the Kapi’olani Children’s Specialty Center down from the 7th floor to a space within the General Pediatric Outpatient Clinics. The vision for the hospital is to one day develop a larger clinic space and have all outpatient pediatric services be run from the same unit. Some of these measures to improve staffing efficiency, room utilization, and care coordination efforts for children with chronic illnesses.
The Pediatric Specialty Division is made up of individuals with fellowship training in pediatric subspecialties. The group has both full and part-time faculty members. All participate in the Residency and Medical Student Teaching programs. Many also participate in research activities.
