Benefits Provision

Vacation:
Hawai`i Residency Program (HRP) provides a total of 3 weeks paid vacation to be taken during the term of the employment agreement. There is no payment in lieu of vacation.
Leaves of Absence:
HRP provides certain leaves of absence (both paid and unpaid) in compliance with applicable laws, including death in the family, temporary military duty, educational leaves, family leave, or generally compelling, urgent or unusual circumstances leave.
Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Hawaii Family Leave Act (HFLA):
The resident/fellow may be entitled to additional unpaid leave, in accordance with certain Federal and State laws. All available paid vacation, sick, or other leave is used prior to invoking the unpaid leave available under FMLA or HFLA.
Sick Leave:
A total of 12 days of paid sick leave is provided under the annual terms of the agreement of appointment.
Professional Liability:
HRP provides residents and fellows with medical malpractice coverage during their training. Check with the programs for more detailed information.
Medical and Dental Insurance:
Health (including drug and vision) and dental care coverage is provided for the resident/fellow. Family coverage for spouse and children is also available at a nominal charge to the resident/fellow.
Temporary Disability Insurance, Long Term Disability Insurance, Workers' Compensation:
HRP pays the entire premium to protect against any temporary, or long term, loss of earnings due to accidental illness or injury, including pregnancy. HRP also pays premium costs for Workers' Compensation insurance to provide health care and loss of earnings benefits for work-related injuries or illnesses.
Life Insurance:
HRP pays the entire premium for group term life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance for the resident/fellow. Coverage amounts to one (1) times the annual salary (rounded to the nearest $1K) to a maximum of $50,000. Supplemental life insurance is also available at the resident's/fellow's expense.
Hospital Meals:
Residents/fellows assigned to in-house on-call receive meal and/or snack tickets from their assigned hospital in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
Sleep Room:
The program provides a "sleep room" for the assigned in-house on-call resident/fellow.
Living Quarters and Laundry Services:
