Applying to the Program:We participate in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Applications from medical or osteopathic schools in the United States and Canada and international medical school graduates will be accepted through the Electronic Residency Applications System (ERAS) beginning September 1 through December 15. Late applications will not be accepted. With the ERAS application, you must submit a personal statement, CV, and USMLE scores. (COMLEX scores accepted, but do not replace USMLE requirement.) We also require a minimum of three letters of recommendation, your medical school transcript, and a letter from your medical school dean. Interviews:Members of the selection committee will review all applications before deciding who to invite for an interview. If you are selected for an interview, you will be contacted by email no later than December 15th. Only those applicants selected for an interview will be contacted by email. Interviews are by invitation only and will be conducted between late October through early February on specific dates. Special arrangements may be made for interviews in September and October. The applicant will have a chance to meet with faculty, have an individual interview with at least 2 faculty members and meet with housestaff during lunch. The interview day will run approximately from 7am to 3pm. Please take this into consideration when making your travel arrangements. Foreign medical school graduates:We do not have any minimum requirements, other than the applicant must possess a valid ECFMG (Exchange Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) certificate at the time of ranking, which will be mid-February. Competitive USMLE scores of >200 on your first attempt will strengthen your application, as will prior clinical experience of at least one year in the U.S. or Canada. (A current letter of reference from someone who has worked with you will be required.) We do not have a cut-off date for year of graduation. We accept J-1 visas only. We are not accepting applications for observerships at this time. For other information, contact Genie Kauhane, Residency Selection Coordinator at geniek@hawaii.edu. |
